Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President Rev. Samson Ayokunle has urged state governments, that are but to reopen worship centres, to achieve this.
Ayokunle described the continual lockdown order on locations of worship as unacceptable and unreasonable.
Some states like Lagos and Ogun are but to reopen worship centres due to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic.
A press release issued in Abuja by his Special Assistant (Media and Communications), Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, mentioned: “Despite the directive given by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 with regards to the re-opening of locations of worship nationwide, some states like Lagos and Ogun are but to enable worship locations, particularly church buildings, to be reopened. What sin have the locations of worship dedicated?
“With the sudden emergence of the coronavirus pandemic, the CAN management in any respect ranges agreed with the federal government on the necessity to shut down the locations of worship, economic system, faculties and each different aspect of life.
“But with the reopening of the economic system, particularly the markets (each organized and the unorganized markets) together with the plan to reopen airports and faculties, the closure of church buildings wherever within the nation is not tenable and acceptable. In what manner are the opened and roadside markets extra organized than the church, which warranted their opening?
“Is it not our members within the locations of worship that do go to markets and different sectors opened? Why are they allowed to go to markets and disallowed from going to locations of worship? Is it as a result of the entrepreneurs can’t contract the virus within the markets and airports?
“It is our opinion that whereas the federal government and different related stakeholders are working onerous to get a treatment for the COVID-19 pandemic, the church too has a job to play by searching for for divine options as nicely.”
CAN appealed to the Lagos, Ogun and different state governments the place church buildings are nonetheless below lockdown to “loosen up it for God’s sake”.
