An Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Wednesday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Jonathan Ukonwe to 30 days imprisonment for not sporting a face masks and resisting arrest.
It can be recalled that the state authorities led by Governor Gboyega Oyetola had mandated all residents within the state to at all times put on their facemasks and keep social distancing as social gathering of efforts to curb the unfold of the lethal Coronavirus pandemic ravaging the entire world.
Ukonwe was arraigned on three counts bordering on resisting arrest, deliberate refusal to put on nostril masks and assault.
The police prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo, advised the courtroom that he dedicated the offence on 1 July 2020 at about 10:30 AM at Olaiya Junction Area, Osogbo.
The Prosecutor mentioned the convict deliberately resisted arrest after he disobeyed the constituted authority.
He defined that Ukonwe intentionally refused to put on facemask within the public.
He disclosed that Ukonwe dedicated an offence opposite to and punishable beneath part 203 and 249(D) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.ll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
He expressed additional that Ukonwe assaulted one Meshack Funmilola F of Hunters Group of Nigeria by beating her up whereas performing her lawful responsibility on the enforcement of using facemask and thereby dedicated an offence opposite to (2 ) and punishable beneath part 3 56 (2) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2020.

While ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Opeyemi Badmus convicted and sentenced Ukonwe to 30 days imprisonment on the 2 counts or pay N15,000 effective.
